Meridian developed the database in the recommended Microsoft two tier approach so that the database has an Access front-end that connects to an Access backend database.

This approach allows for much easier maintenance and support. The front-end database comprises of the queries, forms, reports, macros and modules that will become the ‘user interface’, and the backend database simply holds the tables.
